Furthermore, nearly <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/endpovertyinsouthasia\/integrated-electricity-market-south-asia-key-energy-security\">two-thirds of South Asia&#8217;s energy use<\/a><\/strong><\/span> is imported.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;sky&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;fadeIn&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 15px; color: #000000; line-height: 28px; text-decoration: none;\">Transformational initiatives like clean energy and technologies will help ensure energy accessibility and decrease carbon footprints.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;sky&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Analysis&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1665396019677-3b45896e-421ce7e6-e752f130-a50f&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;fadeIn&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 15px; color: #000000; line-height: 28px; text-decoration: none;\">South Asia\u2019s commitment to Paris agreements\u2019 goals to limit emissions will require transformational initiatives. The integration of innovation, investment, skill development is essential for a safer future and to reduce GHG emissions. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/documents1.worldbank.org\/curated\/en\/873091468155720710\/pdf\/851260BRI0Live00Box382147B00PUBLIC0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Bank report 2014<\/a>, globally the carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector is the maximum consisting of 41%, followed by other sectors like transport and industry. Although, the emissions of SA were historically low there has been an increase in the total emissions from the energy sector. South Asia has heavy dependence (80%) on fossil fuels which amounts to increased greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 15px; color: #000000; line-height: 28px; text-decoration: none;\">To meet the demand of economic growth, urbanization, high population sustainable energy alternatives are needed to improve environmental conditions. This will not only help reduce depletion of natural resources but also provide opportunities to develop clean and cost-effective energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 15px; color: #000000; line-height: 28px; text-decoration: none;\">Ensuring energy security also calls for action-based policy and planning. The <a href=\"https:\/\/mnre.gov.in\/img\/documents\/uploads\/94e402c36ee44fe29e2b96a6b1b69a30.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission of India<\/a> promotes large scale solar energy diffusion. <a href=\"https:\/\/mccibd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Renewable-Energy-Policy-2009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renewable energy policy of Bangladesh<\/a> harnesses the potential and disseminates renewable energy technology. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov.lk\/images\/renewable-energy\/renewable-energy-resource-development-plan-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renewable energy and resource development plan<\/a> of Sri Lanka focuses on implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aedb.org\/images\/Draft_ARE_Policy_2019_-_Version_2_July_21_2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alternative and the renewable energy policy of Pakistan<\/a> aims to safeguard the environment by promoting green energy. <a href=\"https:\/\/faolex.fao.org\/docs\/pdf\/bhu207788.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The alternative renewable energy policy of Bhutan<\/a> aims to ensure energy security, economic development and protection of the environment. <a href=\"https:\/\/policy.asiapacificenergy.org\/sites\/default\/files\/National-Energy-Policy-and-Strategy-2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Maldives Energy\u2019s Policy<\/a> aims to achieve carbon neutrality and provide all citizens with access to affordable and reliable energy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrepnepal.com\/what-we-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nepal\u2019s renewable energy programme<\/a> promotes hydropower, biogas and solar projects to increase accessibility. <a href=\"https:\/\/policy.asiapacificenergy.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Afghanistan-Renewable-Energy-Policy-English-and-Dari.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afghanistan\u2019s Renewable energy policy<\/a> aims to develop renewable energy.
