A national media workshop was held in Lalitpur, Nepal, aiming to explore the intersections between the cryosphere, climate change, and their effects on ecosystems and livelihoods in the Himalayan communities. The workshop, organized by UNESCO and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in collaboration with the Nepal Forum of Science Journalists, brought together environmental journalists, climate scientists, and government officials. France has signed a grant agreement worth \u20ac450,000 with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Electricit\u00e9 de France (EDF) to support Sri Lanka’s goal of achieving 70% renewable energy by 2030. The cooperation aims to enhance CEB’s capacity to integrate renewable energy, optimize procurement for transmission line projects, and improve energy generation and transmission modeling. Despite the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, France remains committed to supporting the country’s ambitious renewable energy targets. Air pollution in Bangladesh is robbing the South Asian nation of economic growth as well as causing premature death and illness, the World Bank said on Sunday. Pollution sapped gross domestic product by 3.9% to 4.4% in 2019 and was the second-biggest cause of death and disability, the global lender said in a report. That year air pollution caused 78,145 to 88,229 deaths, the World Bank estimated, with the capital Dhaka the most polluted in the country.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n
