During COP27, the Global Shapers Community, a network of over 15,000 young change-makers, played a significant role in advocating for climate action. These young individuals participated in negotiations and held over 100 side events. They emphasized the need for urgent climate action from political and business leaders and initiated positive changes themselves. Youth representation was substantial, and opportunities for meaningful engagement were identified. Two Global Shapers shared their perspectives: one from Seychelles highlighted the establishment of a loss and damages fund as a hard-won victory for vulnerable nations, and another from Bhutan discussed the challenges facing least developed countries in participating in carbon markets. Extreme weather events, linked to climate change, are taking a toll on rural houses in Nepal’s Manang and Mustang regions. Continuous heavy rainfall, drying spells, drought, and dry spells have increased. Residents used to build houses with locally available materials, but now they face the need to opt for more costly concrete and metal structures due to their durability. Those who cannot afford these are forced to take out loans to protect their homes from heavy rainfall. Climate experts are urging authorities to find alternatives that provide thermal comfort and do not promote energy-intensive concrete structures.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n
