Since 2012, 14 South Asian cities have adopted or are collaborating on an Urban Low Emissions Development Strategy (Urban-LEDS). Urban-LEDS is an initiative by UN-Habitat and NGO ICLEI, which work with cities to accelerate development that is low-emission, resilient and inclusive, integrating this into existing development plans and processes. Federal Minister for Climate Change, Sherry Rehman, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address the various impacts of climate change. Speaking at the 6th edition of ‘The Future Summit’ in Karachi, she urged investors to support climate-resilient development projects. Rehman highlighted Pakistan’s multifaceted challenges, including terrorism, economic issues, and severe climate change consequences. She stressed that record-breaking rains and floods were a wake-up call, and business as usual was no longer an option. The world is experiencing accelerated warming, and Pakistan has been one of the hottest places on Earth in recent years.
