Policymakers and experts met at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu to discuss safeguarding children and families in South Asia facing climate disasters, economic shocks, and ongoing COVID-19 effects. Organized by UNICEF South Asia in partnership with SAARC, the event featured influential figures such as Nepal’s Foreign Secretary and the World Bank’s Vice President for South Asia. South Asia, with 628 million children, grappled with climate-induced floods and pandemic-driven economic challenges. The emphasis was on making investments in children’s well-being to secure long-term regional growth. The Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin has asked Germany for help in implementing the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) of Bangladesh. The Minister said a total of $230 billion will be required to implement the newly formulated NAP to deal with climate change risks.
