UNOPS Bangladesh has launched the “SDG Cafe,” a monthly roundtable event to enhance understanding of Bangladesh’s progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

Participants from various sectors will discuss current practices, technologies, policies, and challenges related to SDG implementation. The inaugural event focused on climate change adaptation in Bangladesh. Dr. Saleemul Huq, from the International Centre for Climate Change and Development, led the discussion.<\/p>\n

The SDG Cafe aims to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, fostering innovative solutions for sustainable growth. South Asia’s rivers, including the Ganges, Indus, and Brahmaputra, are vital for the region’s culture, economy, and development. However, factors like industrialization, urbanization, population growth, and pollution have strained these rivers. Climate change further exacerbates challenges, making South Asia susceptible to floods and droughts. Limited regional cooperation and poor water management create competition instead of collaboration, raising concerns about water scarcity and potential conflicts.<\/p>\n

To address these issues, countries should share information on transnational river projects, provide hydrological data, consider joint projects, and establish basin-wide research initiatives. Nepal assumed the Chairmanship of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) for three years amid a ceremony organised at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
