But how does one prepare for the unpredictable? Forecasting and early-warning systems, for instance, give experts a calculated glimpse into the future of imminent risks like heavy rainfall or cyclones, thus giving communities a bit more time to get ready or evacuate.<\/p>\n

ADPC launches its 7th ‘Climate Talks’ alongside COP26’s discussions and negotiations to bring you key views and perspectives from experts attending the event. This episode focuses on rising risks in South Asia, and how forecasting technology is promoting both adaptation and resilience.<\/p>\n

Join Prof. Petteri Taalas as he identifies the various impacts of climate change that South Asian communities can expect in the near future, while Prof. Buddhi Marambe and Mr. Muhammad Arif Goheer respond with current technologies and strategies that are being implemented in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Professor Petteri Taalas is Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. He has extensive experience in national and international expert organizations and published 50 publications on global climate change, satellite methodologies, and atmospheric chemistry. Professor Buddhi Marambe is a Senior Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Sri Lanka. He has over 33 years of experience as an academic and has published over 100 research papers and book chapters on climate change, weed science, and food security. Mr. Muhammad Arif Goheer is Head of Agriculture and Coordination at the Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan.
