‘A Productive and Water Secure Pakistan<\/a><\/strong><\/span>‘ discusses the water challenges faced by the country, emphasizing the need for a transformative approach.<\/p>\n

Pakistan’s water resources, including the Indus River Basin, are under severe stress due to population growth, urbanization, water scarcity, degraded water quality, and climate change. The report presents a vision for a productive and water-secure future, outlining key goals such as doubling agricultural outputs, expanding hydropower, reducing flood impact, and improving water supply and sanitation.<\/p>\n

It calls for mobilizing financial and intellectual resources from the government, private sector, and development partners. The report also highlights the importance of modernizing infrastructure, institutions, and knowledge management to effectively work towards a water-secure Pakistan and address its water challenges.<\/p>\n

The Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FODP), a group of countries that aim to support the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to consolidate democracy in Pakistan and support social and economic development in the country, held its Third Ministerial Meeting in Brussels on 15 October 2010.<\/p>\n

The meeting participants acknowledged water resources as a priority for the country. They agreed that a FODP Water Sector Task Force (WSTF) should be established to prepare a report on the water sector, including an action plan, in consultation with the Government of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
