The Climate Change Trust Act, 2010<\/a><\/strong><\/span> establishes the Climate Change Trust to combat climate change impacts in Bangladesh. It defines the Trust’s aims, objectives, and functions, including creating action plans, implementing programs, and allocating funds for adaptation, mitigation, and capacity building.<\/p>\n

The Act outlines the Trust’s administrative structure, with a Board of Trustees and a Technical Committee. It establishes the Climate Change Trust Fund, detailing funding sources and allocation. The Act emphasizes project preparation, budgeting, and accountability.<\/p>\n

It appoints a Managing Director and permits the delegation of powers. The Act underscores protection for actions in good faith and provides for rule and regulation-making.<\/p>\n

Act No. LVII of 2010 was retrieved from the Ministry of Environment, Fores and Climate Change (MoEFCC)<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and came into effect on 11 October 2010.<\/p>\n

Recent Updates: <\/strong><\/p>\n

On 21 July 2023, it was reported that with the help of the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund, the Department of Environment (DoE) launched a pilot project in 2012 to test the 3R strategy<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u2014reduce, reuse, and recycle\u2014for better waste management.<\/p>\n

On 4 November 2022, it was reported that the Trust Fund had spent US $480 million on 800 research, mitigation, and adaption projects<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Over the last seven years, the government’s climate-related spending has doubled from US $1.44 billion to US $2.96 billion in fiscal 2022.<\/p>\n

On 21 April 2022, it was reported that the Act was created to combat climate change impacts<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and implement the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (BCCSAP), 2009, undertaking projects based on the thematic areas and programs mentioned in BCCSAP.<\/p>\n
