The First National Communication of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change was the country’s first attempt to meet its reporting obligations.
It incorporates the country’s National Strategy and Action Plan and was developed after intensive consultations among government and non-governmental organizations.
It contains the results of technical studies, observations, and findings of assessments conducted through field studies and scientific studies undertaken with guidance from experts.
This report is composed of seven main chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on the National Circumstance; Chapter 2 on National GHG inventory; Chapter 3 on Mitigation of GHG emissions; Chapter 4 on Vulnerability to Climate Change; Chapter 5 on Adaptation to Climate Change; Chapter 6 on Policies and Measures; and Chapter 7 on Project proposals..
The report was retrieved from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology (MoECCT) and published in 2001.
It was produced with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) as part of the enabling activity project; Maldives GHG Inventory and Vulnerability Assessment: A Climate Change Enabling Activity.
A national country team worked closely with relevant government sectors in developing this first National Communication. It was prepared in close adherence to the guidelines provided by Decision 10/CP.2 of the Second Conference of the Parties (COP2) to the UNFCCC.
