The book “SAARC Good Agriculture Practices for Vegetables and Fruits in South Asia: Current Status and Future Opportunities” contains the papers and proceedings of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Regional Consultative Meeting on Development of Country Specific Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) Standards and Harmonization of SAARC GAP for Vegetables and Fruits, 8-10 April 2018 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The book chapters provide an overview of the SAARC GAP initiative, Bangladesh’s GAP status, and challenges, Bhutan’s GAP situation, and India’s GAP standards.

It also looks at how the Maldives is improving food safety through MGAP, the evolution of NepalGAP, GAP standards for vegetables and fruits in Pakistan, Sri Lanka’s current GAP status, and the implementation of harmonized SAARC GAP standards to boost regional trade.

Together, these chapters offer valuable insights into agricultural practices and policies in South Asian nations and their efforts to enhance agricultural standards and trade within SAARC.

The book was developed by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in December 2018.

Recent Updates:

In March 2023, the book was used as a reference in a peer-reviewed journal focusing on assessing good agriculture practices for safe and sustainable vegetable production in the mid-hills of Nepal.
