Background:

Water affects us all, so we must all act swiftly to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

As one of the world’s most densely populated regions, South Asia is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which are already being felt in the form of droughts, floods, and erratic rainfall patterns.

In addition, the Third Pole, which is the source of many of Asia’s largest rivers, including the Indus, Ganga, and Brahmaputra, is experiencing rapid melting of glaciers due to climate change which is contributing to rising water levels, increased flooding, and reduced water availability, in the long run, raising concern for the region’s water security.

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) invites you to join our celebration of World Water Day 2023 by taking note of critical messages from experts in water resources management and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices in South Asia.

Speakers:

Mr. Hossain I. Adib is Director – Programmes at WaterAid based in Bangladesh.

Mr. Hugh Milner is Regional Advisor – Water Resources Management at ADPC based in Thailand.

Additional Resources:

On 22 March, SAR-Climate got early access to the United Nations World Water Development Report 2023, focusing on partnerships and cooperation for water.
